FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A new Women’s Memorial honoring all women who’ve served their country will be unveiled on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum.

The Women’s Memorial has been in the works for quite some time, according to spokesperson Eric Johnson, who said, “We received a $75,000 grant from the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC), and we raised another $75,000 in matching funds to reach our goal.

“Delays in shipping the red granite from India pushed back the scheduled dedication set for September. The memorial is a combination of red and grey granite and Indiana limestone. It’s a very special blend of these stones that will highlight many women who have made significant contributions to Military History since the Revolutionary War.”

A press release sent out also said that the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum received numerous donations from local veterans, businesses, veterans organizations, and Women’s Auxiliaries from Indiana and Ohio.

The Women’s Memorial concept was designed by local graphic designer and illustrator David Charles Rulka.
