GRANT COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - An Indiana State Police (ISP) officer says a Texas man is now facing charges after a weekend traffic stop in Marion led to a drug bust.

ISP Public Information Officer Steven Glass says Trooper Titus stopped a car along Tippy Drive in Marion around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The trooper said while interacting with the driver, identified as 35-year-old Reuben D. Powell of Channelview, Texas, he noticed signs of potential criminal activity and called in a K-9 Unit for assistance.

A Marion Police Department officer responded to the call for help along with his K-9 partner, who alerted that narcotics were inside the vehicle.

Following a search, Glass says Trooper Titus found suspected Kratom, a controlled substance that has sedative and psychological effects when taken in high doses, according to the DEA.

Roughly 500 grams of Kratom were found in Powell’s car, police say.

The Texas man was then arrested and is facing preliminary charges of dealing in a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
