City of Fort Wayne to host public meeting on Airport Expressway overpass project
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The City of Fort Wayne is inviting residents to a public meeting providing an overview of the Airport Expressway Grade Separation Improvements Project.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, in Citizens Square’s Omni Room.
City officials say the Public Works Department will explain the project’s need, proposed improvements, and future.
The project would eliminate the railroad crossing at Norfolk Southern’s Crossing 478051H by constructing an overpass and rebuilding approximately 2,500 feet of Airport Expressway between Airport Drive and the Harber Drain bridge.
According to city officials, the section of roadway carries more than 20,000 vehicles daily, and removing the crossing would reduce traffic delays, improve safety, and accommodate increased travel demand.
City officials say the project would also increase water‑flow capacity and reduce flooding at Harber Drain, decrease vehicle emissions, and support nearby community and economic assets, enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors on Fort Wayne’s southwest side.
