FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - New census data shows Fort Wayne is the fastest-growing large city in the Midwest.

All cities with 250,000 or more residents are included in the same category in census data, meaning Fort Wayne is in the same group as cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Among the country’s largest cities, Fort Wayne comes in 26th for growth from 2020 to 2025, while it tops the list for the cities in the same category located in the Great Lakes States.

For cities and towns in the Fort Wayne area, Grabill, Woodburn, New Haven, Huntertown and Leo-Cedarville saw the most growth. Hartford City, Wabash, Portland, Bryant and North Manchester all saw population declines, ranging from about one to three percent.
