ISP: One person dead following officer-involved shooting in Anderson Saturday
ANDERSON, Ind. (WPTA) - Indiana State Police (ISP) shares it is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in Anderson on Saturday night.
According to ISP, Madison County Deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at the request of the Marion County Sheriff’s Department around 9 p.m. on Saturday at the 1600 Block of Fairview Street in Anderson.
ISP says when Madison County Deputies arrived at the scene, they located a man in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in a driveway.
When officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by giving multiple verbal commands for the man to show his hands and exit the vehicle, ISP says the man refused to comply.
ISP says one officer fired from his department-issued weapon at the man.
Officers at the scene immediately began securing the scene and rendering life-saving aid to the man before medical personnel on the scene pronounced the man dead.
The Madison County Coroner identified the man as 44-year-old Lataurus Ladon Harrison of Indianapolis. No officers sustained any injuries during the encounter.
Indiana State Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. During the forensic processing of the vehicle, ISP says Crime Scene Investigators located a firearm on the front passenger seat of the vehicle Harrison was in.
Investigators are reviewing body-worn camera footage captured by officers on the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing.
Harrison’s family has been notified. The identity of the officer involved in the shooting is also being withheld at this time and will be released in the following days.
