Digging Deeper Reporter, Anchor
Angelica Pickens is an anchor and investigative reporter at 21Alive News. Previously, she was the Public Information Officer for the City of Fort Wayne’s Community Development Division.
Pickens has spent more than 10 years in fields related to writing, broadcasting, and public relation. Her broadcasting career began in Chicago at WGN-TV in 2013, where she was a news writer for the station’s morning show. She later became a fill-in producer for WGN’s 24-hour sister network CLTV.
Pickens was the lead investigative reporter, fill-in anchor, and multimedia journalist at a Fort Wayne news station from 2015 to 2020. Her reports focused on a wide range of topics including health, education and crime.
During that time, she received multiple awards for her work from various organizations including the Society of Professional Journalists for Outstanding Contributions in Reporting Events of Public Importance, the Fraternal Order of Police for Outstanding Police Journalism, and Tobacco Free Allen County for Outstanding Reporting on Youth and E-cigarettes.
Pickens is also an adjunct communications professor at Indiana Tech University and has done freelance writing for Input Fort Wayne.
Pickens is a native of Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.A. in Communication. She decided to further her education at DePaul University in Chicago, where she obtained a master’s degree in Journalism.
Pickens has held membership in various professional organizations including, Society of Professional Journalists, National Association of Black Journalists, and Association of Women Journalists. Pickens also is a member of the Women's Fund of Greater Fort Wayne and sits on the PBS Board of Directors.
She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Greater Northeast Indiana chapter of Jack and Jill of America.
When Pickens is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, reading, and traveling. She is an avid supporter of Wayne High School athletics where her husband, Byron Pickens is the Head Coach for the Varsity Boys' basketball team.
