FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones hosted his youth football camp at Bishop Dwenger Thursday, working with campers and meeting Colts fans throughout the day.

The one-day camp ran from noon to 4 p.m. at Shields Field.

Jones worked with aspiring football players ages 6-16 on fundamental skills and the importance of sportsmanship on and off the field. He also spent time throwing passes with campers.

Jones said he hopes participants leave with a desire to stay active and enjoy the game.

“You obviously want them to have a good time, for it to be fun, but I think just being active, playing outside, playing with their buddies,” Jones said. “I don’t think it’s anything complicated. When I think about how I grew up or what I was doing in the summer, it was a lot of this kind of stuff. I think it’s really important.”

Camp organizers said Jones plans to bring the event back to Fort Wayne next summer.

Jones is also continuing his recovery from the Achilles tear he suffered in December.

He said his goal remains to be ready for Week 1 of the NFL season.

“That’s the goal, that’s the plan, is to be ready for that game and doing everything I can to be out there,” Jones said. “I feel really good about where I am. The rehab process has gone well and I’ve been working with the Colts staff a lot.”

The Colts open the regular season against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Sept. 13. Training camp begins Wednesday, July 29.
