HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WPTA) - Ground has been broken for Huntington’s newest industrial partner.

Hanjung America Corp., a division of Hanjung NCS, a technology and automotive components company based in South Korea, is set for its first U.S.-based manufacturing facility at Riverfork West Industrial Park.

Earlier this year, the company said it would employ more than 300 workers in Huntington when operations start, and once at full employment, it will have more than 440 positions with an average hourly rate of more than $28.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation committed up to $4.5 million in incentive-based tax credits to Hanjung America. It also committed up to $400,000 in Hoosier Business Investment tax credits, and up to $200,000 in training grants based on the company’s plans to create more than 500 jobs statewide.

The incentives are performance-based, so the company will be able to claim state benefits once investments are made and jobs are created, according to a news release. Huntington City Council has approved a plan to phase in Hanjung’s property tax obligations over 10 years to “support the company’s job creation efforts and its significant investment in the community,” the release says.

“Huntington is proud to welcome a Hanjung America production facility to Riverfork West,” Huntington Mayor Richard Strick said. “Hanjung’s technology makes energy storage safer and more effective, two critical requirements to lowering energy costs for consumers throughout the grid.”

“These are good-paying manufacturing jobs, and our workforce will demonstrate once again what makes Huntington a special community in the global economy.”

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said it was “an exciting day for Hanjung America, for Huntington, and most importantly, for Hoosiers.”

“Hanjung America’s decision to locate in Indiana is a testament to the skill and the commitment of our manufacturing workforce,” Braun said. “This new facility will create hundreds of new high-paying jobs while supporting the continued growth of our energy storage and automotive sectors statewide.”
