(Gray News) - President Donald Trump said he will have the Department of Justice investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s possible relationship with former President Bill Clinton and several other high-profile figures.

Trump made the announcement Friday morning on Truth Social. In the post, Trump claimed Democrats are using what he called the “Epstein Hoax” to deflect from “their disastrous SHUTDOWN, and all their other failures.”

He said that in response, he will have Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Department of Justice and the FBI investigate Epstein’s involvement with Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, and Chase, as well as several other “people and institutions.”

“Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his ‘Island.” Stay tuned," the post said.

Earlier this week, Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released three email correspondences that appear to reveal further ties between Epstein and the president, and imply Trump knew about “the girls.”

Trump accused the Democrats of leaking the emails as a deflection from “how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown,” and the White House said the Democrats had selectively picked emails “to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump.”

The record 43-day shutdown ended Wednesday night with Trump signing a government spending bill just hours after the House passed the measure.

In response to the emails, Republicans on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released 20,000 additional documents from the Epstein estate. Those documents revealed the extent of the network of wealthy and influential friends Epstein had created.

A discharge petition linked to legislation that would require the Justice Department to release all unclassified documents and communications related to Epstein received its final needed signature on Wednesday.

Arizona Rep. Adelita Grijalva signed the petition after she was sworn in by House Speaker Mike Johnson before the House returned to session, giving it’s 218 needed signatures. However, that doesn’t mean there will be a vote right away.

Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern, the top Democrat on the House Rules Committee, said he expects voting on the Epstein bill to take place in December.
