Crews extinguish two-alarm fire at aluminum foundry
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Firefighters responded to a large industrial fire late Tuesday at Ward Aluminum Company, according to a media release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
The fire on Growth Avenue was initially called out just after 11 p.m. as a working structure fire. The first responding firefighters quickly upgraded the call to a two-alarm fire, bringing in additional crews and equipment to the scene.
The FWFD says crews worked to quickly extend hose lines to the second story of the building, where there were visible flames. They say firefighters battled the flames despite having zero visibility.
Fire crews also worked to vent the building and get smoke out. Our crew on scene saw firefighters breaking windows at the factory.
The fire was under control at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The FWFD says nobody was inside the four-story building when the fire broke out. The building sustained moderate damage from fire, smoke, and water.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters previously responded to a fire at a different building at the same site in 2024.
