16-year-old boy, mother killed in Adams County crash involving semi
ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - A 16-year-old boy and his mother were killed in a collision with a semi on Tuesday morning, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office says.
Dallas M. Raugh was driving a 2024 Hyundai Sonata southbound on U.S. Highway 27 at about 8:30 a.m. with his mother, 41-year-old Thera J. Raugh, riding as a passenger, according to the agency. A preliminary investigation has led investigators to believe the teen disregarded a traffic signal when he collided with a 2003 Freightliner driven by 42-year-old Jeremy M. Klenke.
The Hyundai T-boned the semi and became lodged underneath it.
Klenke was not injured in the crash and underwent a blood draw per Indiana law; however, impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. Police are investigating failure to obey a traffic signal, driving too fast for weather conditions and limited visibility due to fog as potential contributing factors.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in responding to the crash by the Adams County Coroner’s Office, Adams County EMS, Monroe Fire Department, Piqua Repair, Decatur Police Department, Indiana Department of Transportation, and the Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Division. The investigation is ongoing.
The agency urges drivers to drive with caution in foggy conditions and obey traffic signals.
