Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker testifies on SB 1 during House Ways and Means committee meeting Wednesday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker testified Wednesday on Senate Bill 1 during a House Ways and Means committee meeting.

SB 1 is a bill aiming to provide property tax relief while cutting funding to public services.

According to the City of Fort Wayne, Mayor Tucker thanked members of the committee for their time and attention addressing property tax concerns from constituents.

While testifying, Mayor Tucker discussed the importance of finding balance between implementing targeted property tax relief and ensuring local governments do not face financial hardships for necessary services.

Mayor Tucker says Fort Wayne has been a good steward of taxpayer dollars to meet the needs of the community and doesn’t want proposed legislation to negatively affect Hoosiers.

Mayor Tucker expressed her desire to work with legislators to help ensure Fort Wayne and Indiana have the financial tools to grow and succeed.
