Community invited to attend Fort Wayne Urban League library dedication

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Urban League is inviting community members to attend its upcoming library dedication.
Fort Wayne resident Chief Condra Ridley will be celebrated during a Saturday ribbon cutting as the library is named “The Chief Condra Ridley Library” in her honor. The event will begin at 3 p.m.
The first 10 guests will receive a free copy of “The People Could Fly” by Virginia Hamilton, one of Ridley’s favorite books. She will sign each copy.
“I am honored to dedicate this library to Chief Condra Ridley who has served this community for 30+ years and inspired so many people, including me, to pick up a book and read it,” said FWUL President and CEO Aisha R. Arrington.
The organization is hopeful the library will encourage young people to read, according to a press release.
“There is a tremendous need to simply offer an opportunity for our kids to fall in love with reading – reading sets the foundation for every goal associated with education and career opportunities and when our kids are not reading on grade level it starts them on a path where there is little opportunity,” Arrington said.
No registration is required for the ribbon cutting. FWUL is located at 2135 S. Hanna St.
