Fort Wayne man set to appear in court for first time Wednesday on charges from weekend shooting

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A 28-year-old Fort Wayne man accused of shooting his cousin over the weekend will appear in court for the first time Wednesday morning.
BACKGROUND: Arrest made in connection to life-threatening Saturday morning shooting near downtown Fort Wayne
Cameron Leshore allegedly told police his cousin was handing a gun to him from the front to back seat when it went off, striking the cousin, according to a probable cause affidavit written by Fort Wayne Detective Geraud Bartels. However, a witness told police that Leshore claimed the victim accidentally shot himself.
Detectives said the trajectory of the bullet made it nearly impossible for the victim to have shot himself, and that it is more likely Leshore fired the gun from the backseat.
Leshore is set for an initial hearing on his single count of aggravated battery on Wednesday morning. The charge carries a potential 16-year prison sentence.
