Students at Irwin STEM Magnet School celebrate 50 local veterans

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - For the past 10 years, Kasey Carr has brought her story and the stories of other local veterans to the students at Irwin STEM Magnet School. Each year they hold a special program honoring those heroes.
Students and staff invite veterans in their lives to join them at school. Each veteran receives breakfast, gifts of gratitude and can choose to get a haircut or even a makeup touch up.
Kasey Carr, a veteran herself, says what started as a way to share her story has grown into a huge event that multiple community businesses donate to. She said this year they raised around $5,000 for the event through donors.
The event was held this morning at the FWCS elementary school.
