FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Former Komets captain Anthony Petruzzelli has returned to the United States, but he still won’t be suiting up for Fort Wayne this season.

Petruzzelli has signed on elsewhere in the ECHL, joining the Jacksonville Icemen.

Petruzzelli started his professional career with the Komets, joining the team at the end of the 2017-18 season.

He spent the next five seasons in a Komet jersey, never missing a game for injury (he did have a brief AHL call up with Chicago during the 2019-20 season).

Petruzzelli helped the Komets claim their first Kelly Cup in 2021. He spent the last two seasons as Fort Wayne’s captain.

The 30-year-old forward planned to spend this season overseas, signing with the Guildford Flames in July. That tenure was short-lived, the Flames cut Petruzzelli after eight games.
