Baez and bulllpen stifle Loons, Zavala launches homer in TinCaps playoff win
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - TinCaps fans had waited six years for another playoff game at Parkview Field. The team awarded their patience on Tuesday night.
A crowd of 3,657 fans watched the TinCaps start their new playoff run with a 5-0 win over Great Lakes.
Henry Baez, Ethan Routzhan, Carter Loewen, and Cole Paplham combined for a four-hit shuout.
Baez started, and worked around some trouble, scattering three hits and five walks over four innings of work.
Routzahn (W, 1-0) picked up the win in relief, stranding a pair of runners inherited from Baez in the top of the fifth.
Tyler Robertson had a strong day in the Fort Wayne leadoff spot, hitting two doubles and scoring the first two runs of the night.
Sam Zavala helped put the game out of reach with at three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, his first home run since joining the TinCaps.
The series now moves to Midland, Michigan. The TinCaps can advance to the Midwest League Championship Series with a win on Thursday night.
