FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A major winter storm is taking shape, and will move out of the southern Plains tomorrow into the Midwest tomorrow night and bring winter storm conditions by early Wednesday to our area. As a result, a FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY has been issued for Wednesday.

This system will bring mainly snow, but we are watching the storm track with great interest. A shift of the low pressure center 50 miles to the north could put some counties south and east of Allen county in rain/snow mix at times, which would cut down on snow amounts significantly.

As of now, however, significant snow accumulation is expected during the day on Wednesday for most locations, with slightly lower totals north and west of Allen County. It is possible we deal with a bit of blowing and drifting snow as well with gusts up to, or perhaps even exceeding, 25 mph, though this will be a wet snow and as a result any blowing and drifting will likely be limited.

Snow begins a little before sunrise Wednesday, becoming heaviest after sunrise through the early afternoon. By Wednesday evening, snow intensity will diminish.
