Aboite Township opens first baby box location
ABOITE TOWNSHIP, Ind. (WPTA) - The Aboite Township Fire Station announces the creation of a new baby box location in Allen County.
Station officials say that the opening of the baby box was held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Aboite Township Fire Station #2 at 4233 Coventry Lane.
The newest baby box is part of the Safe Haven Baby Box initiative, founded by Monica Kelsey, in an effort to eliminate infant abandonment and spread awareness on Safe Haven laws.
So far this year, officials say there have been seven infants surrendered through a baby box. The Aboite location is now the 93rd Baby Box in Indiana, and the 129th in the United States.
The Baby Box is an anonymous, safe surrender location that features climate control and a silent alarm system that notifies first responders to a surrendered infant, according to officials.
