FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Indiana State Police are investigating a crash that sent 10 children and two adults to the hospital Monday evening around 7:15.
Officials say they found a pick-up truck “literally split in two pieces” and a large passenger van in a ditch at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Hoagland Rd. They believe the pick-up truck driver, a 65-year-old Hoagland man, crossed the intersection without stopping for the van. The van, driven by a 41-year-old Hoagland woman carrying 10 children, crashed into the side of the truck.
Police tell us the children are between the ages of 6 months and 15 years and only sustained minor injuries thanks to wearing seat belts. Everyone is expected to be okay.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor, and police say the truck driver would not cooperate in the investigation. At this time, no charges have been filed, but the investigation in ongoing.
