FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne Police Department is holding an event Monday evening to connect area students with the resources they need for the upcoming school year.
The department’s Victim Assistance program has planned a backpack giveaway from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday downtown at Lawton Park. Organizers say they have over 700 book bags filled with school supplies to hand out rain or shine.
Anyone interested in attending is asked to enter off of Clinton Street, take a left onto Fourth Street, then turn left into the park, located at 1900 N Clinton Street. They say one bag will be given per school-age child, who must be present for pickup.
