FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The cause of the mobile home fire on Grassy Lane in April that left four children dead can not be determined, the Allen County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.
The coroner’s office says evidence gathered by the Indiana State Fire Marshal showed that the fire started in or around a recliner in the mobile home, but because of the amount of damage created by the flames, a definitive cause of the fire could not be proven to an acceptable level of certainty.
10-year-old Matthew Damron, 5-year-old Johnnie Mann Goff, 3-year-old Jefferson Goff, and 2-year-old Rosalynn Goff all died in the fire.
The coroner’s office ruled that the children’s cause of death was smoke inhalation and thermal burns. The manner of the children’s death is undetermined.
