Gov. Holcomb: General Assembly to address abortion in July 6 session

Ind. (WPTA) - After the Supreme Court voted on Friday to overrule the landmark abortion protection case Roe v. Wade, Indiana’s governor said the General Assembly will address the future of abortion in the state at the previously set July special session.

Gov. Eric Holcomb released the following statement on Friday afternoon:

On Wednesday, Holcomb announced that a special session of the Indiana Legislature will begin July 6 to take up the governor’s proposal for sending out $225 payments to all taxpayers from the state’s growing budget surplus.

WPTA reported in March that Hoosier Republicans in both the House and Senate wrote a letter to Governor Holcomb, asking him to call them back into session if the U.S. supreme court rules against all or part of Roe v. Wade.

“Providing a voice for those that have not yet been able to speak for themselves is a responsibility that we do not take lightly, and this is exactly why this request is so important,” the letter reads.
