FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Allen County Commission on Friday approved rezoning a tract of land south of Lafayette Center Road and east of I-69, allowing a proposed neighborhood to move forward.

The 3-0 vote happened after the item was introduced during “other business” at the morning meeting, with the Commission being told action was needed on the proposal because of an approaching deadline. The Allen County Plan Commission had recommended against the rezoning, and some area residents have expressed concern that the subdivision is inappropriate for a largely rural part of the county.

Granite Ridge Builders intends to build more than 200 homes on the property and will call the neighborhood “Cedar Grove.”

The Allen County Commission had delayed action on the rezoning item at previous meetings, but the vote on Friday happened with no discussion on the matter.
