No injuries following fire at Huntington’s Pizza Junction
HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WPTA) - Smoke and flames caused serious damage to a popular Huntington pizza joint Friday afternoon, but no injuries were reported as fire spread through the open restaurant.
The sheriff’s department posted on its Facebook page just after 2 p.m. asking residents to avoid the area near Pizza Junction Cafe, located at 201 Court Street, as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire there.
Huntington Mayor Richard Strick told ABC21 that the fire started while the restaurant was open, but everyone was able to escape without any injuries. He says the owners are still trying to process everything and their main concern is for their employees. The restaurant employs 30 people and has been in business for 30 to 40 years, Strick says.
It’s Facebook page shows refers to it as a “family owned business since 1983.”
Strick says the owners have been there for so many Huntington residents on some of their worst days and he expects that the community will be there for them, too. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
