2022 Spring Weather Special
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Meteorological spring, the time period meteorologists and climatologists use to keep records for spring, begins on March 1. Likewise, meteorological summer begins June 1 and runs through the end of August. This time of year can bring some of the area’s most violent weather, from severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to floods.
That’s why the ABC21 Weather Team is helping you prepare this summer.
In this year’s StormTrack Spring Weather Special, the team takes a look back at the past winter and looks ahead to this spring and summer. We’ll also dive deep into how 5G could affect your forecasts, how the National Weather Services conducts storm surveys, and how the local, state, and federal governments respond to emergencies.
The team also considers a significant historical weather event in Fort Wayne--the Flood of 1982--and the lessons that can be learned from it. We also speak to a climate expert to find out if the recent trend of colder springs is random and by chance or part of a larger trend.
