Gas shortages not expected in Indiana and Ohio after pipeline shutdown

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Gas prices have been on the rise as the economy has reopened, but the shutdown of the Colonial Pipeline has led to concerns of a gas shortage.

The good news: the rise in prices is due to the spike in demand, not the shutdown and cyber attack of the pipeline. Naturally, as demand increases, prices go up to curb the spike in demand. Panic buying is only fueling this rising demand.

Most gas stations in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio receive their gas supply locally, which means a gas shortage here in 21 Country is unlikely.

And one local gas station owner says folks should ask themselves this question:

Prices could keep rising if the unusually high demand continues. The Colonial Pipeline should reopen in the coming days, which may put an end to supply shortages if panic buying slows.
